Fittonia Care Guide

Light

It’s the best north and east window facing plant because it likes indirect and bright light for better health. Any medium by which your fittonia plant can get filtered light is highly suitable. In some cases, if you don’t have such a medium then an open sunny window can work but place your plant at some required distance. Under proper light conditions, plants will perform very well but changing in conditions like low and bright light can affect the view of your plant.

Water

Watering is not a difficult task and if you love your fittonia plant then it’s going to be very simple. Its don’t like to stay try because try soil will affect a lot on this plant, it loves a little moist environment, and a wet or extra moist environment can affect the growth rate of your plant, so always water the plant when it’s looking thirsty.

Propagation Of Fittonia

We can use two different ways to propagate fittonia and both of these are very simple and easy to do:

  • Through Cuttings
  • Through Leaves

Through Cuttings

Propagation is simple through stem cutting and it’s very simple to do. If you own any other plant then you would have tried this method already.

  • Just get about 6-8inches longer stem cutting with the help of a knife or with a sharp cutter.
  • Remove all the leaves.
  • Fill a jar with fresh and clean water.
  • Place your cutting in it.
  • Provide suitable temperature and humidity as mentioned in the care guide.
  • Change water after every 6-10 days

In this step, propagation will start in just 2 weeks or maybe a little more but you can get your own prepared healthy plant through a cutting. When you will spot some growing roots in the water, it means now you have to transplant them into a suitable pot. Select a medium or normal size pot with the best potting mixture and transplant it.

Through Leaves

Have you ever done the propagation of any plant through leaves? Especially in water? I hope so you will. This time gets small or healthy leaves with a small node or bridge which connects the leaves with the stem. Now stick that in water and follow the same care requirements. As cuttings can produce roots after 2 weeks but it can take up to 10 weeks, after all, that, now you have to transplant your plant In the same way.

Our Recommendations

According to us propagation through roots is good to try and the germination ratio is also more than 80% but in leaf propagation germination ratio will be low. So it’s better to go with cutting propagation but you can also try leaf propagation for testing and fun.
